Operating in Upstate SC since 2012, and located in Seneca since 2017, we have expanded to include group classes, virtual online lessons, more private instruction instruments, and a small retail store with beginner instruments and accessories.

As of 2020, we now offer private instruction on percussion (drums & mallets), brass, violin, and woodwinds (sax, clarinet, flute) all taught by highly experienced staff.

BJ Callahan, owner of FNKY, has over 20 years of music teaching experience and offers lessons on Guitar, Piano, Saxophone, Bass, Songwriting & Theory, and Music Technology.  I teach all ages, skill levels, and genres.  Private lessons are personally tailored to you and your learning style and incorporate my custom curriculum developed over 20 years. Feel free to get in touch to learn more and schedule a tour before you commit to lessons.

When I began my own musical journey at age 11, I studied both the classical method in school for saxophone while simultaneously self-teaching myself guitar. My education continued through a college degree in Music Theory & Composition. Now, I appreciate and encourage combining both a classical and modern practical approach to gain a totally comprehensive musical education that trains your fingers, ears, and brain equally.

Get the edge you need to help separate you from the crowd … Musical Intelligence. Lessons are taught at FNKY Music Studios in Seneca, SC.

Student Testimonial, from Paul in 2019:

“As a 60 year old retiree, it was time to follow through on my dream to play the guitar.  I found BJ through a friend’s recommendation for an instructor that was skilled at teaching both young and old students.  It was obvious listening to BJ play that he is an accomplished musician.  After about a year of instruction I have confirmed he is also an accomplished teacher.  He has patiently and comprehensively taken a slow learning “old timer” to a level of acoustic guitar playing that is beyond what I anticipated.  Thank you BJ for helping me reach one of my “bucket list” goals!”
